Even in university, I’ve found that Everybody has an addiction mine just happens to be cats shirt. There are those who are definitely socially well adjusted and those who struggle to converse, just as in the general population. But, in your defense, the opinion of engineers having poor social skills was historically widespread. Engineering traditionally emphasized strong technical skills, especially during the industrial revolution and after. Often, technical skills were given a higher priority than communication skills as knowledge was scarce and industrialists needed workers who could become productive as soon as possible.
